Senior Tip Tuesday – My Eye Photography

Thinking about getting a spray tan before your senior session? 🧡 You might want to hold off…

While spray tans can give you a sunkissed look in person, they don’t always photograph the way you expect. Cameras pick up warm undertones differently, and even a “natural glow” can appear orange, blotchy, or uneven—especially in natural light or next to others.

Here's why you should skip the spray tan—and what to do instead:

🚫 1. Skip the Spray Tan

Most tans, especially self-tanners or spray booths, contain DHA, which oxidizes on your skin and can turn orange under sunlight or studio lighting. It may also cling to dry patches or knuckles. It’s safer to go with your natural tone—and if you want, I can always warm it up slightly in post-editing.

💧 2. Exfoliate Gently (But Don’t Overdo It)

Dry skin can reflect light unevenly in photos. Gently exfoliate 2–3 days before your session to get rid of flakiness and smooth out texture. Just don’t do anything too harsh that might cause redness or irritation!

💦 3. Moisturize Your Knees, Elbows & Hands

These spots are notorious for looking dull or dry in photos. Use a light, non-greasy moisturizer the night before and the morning of your shoot (but avoid shiny oils!).

🌞 4. Be Cautious in the Sun Before Your Session

A surprise sunburn or major tan lines can be a nightmare in photos. If you're outdoors a lot, use SPF and avoid straps or accessories that might leave awkward lines.

❌ 5. No Last-Minute Skincare Experiments

Avoid trying new skincare, face masks, or acne treatments the week of your session. Breakouts, rashes, or allergic reactions are the last thing you want on photo day. Stick to your routine and keep it simple!

💄 6. Optional: Light Makeup Can Help Even Things Out

Whether you do your own makeup or book a pro, a little bit of concealer, powder, and lip balm can go a long way in photos. Keep it natural—you want to look like YOU!
